To Belt or not to Belt…..That is the question!

Posted in Uncategorized on October 22, 2009 by meganford642

bigBeltsparisSo I was mindlessly flipping through the latest fashion mags yesterday in the grocery store line and I noticed in almost every spread that belts were being used in abundance. I have always been a lover of belts but I have never been confident enough to wear them in the daring ways that I see on other fabulous fashionistas.

My question is when is a belt the right touch and when is it too much? The answer is…who knows! We all know the main rule in fashion is there are no rules only guidelines, so here are a few belt guidelines:

If you are going to belt a dress try to keep with the waistline of the dress, if it is drop waisted sling that belt down low!

Don’t get too matchy matchy. Try and add an unexpected detail, like a studded rocker belt paired with a super feminine dress.

Don’t forget your old friend the scarf! Scarves can make really cool sashes and add a fun pop of color to an otherwise predictable little black dress!anne-hathaway-scarf-belt-copy1

Last but not least my favorite combination for a really cool statement belt is the plain white button down and a pair of skinny jeans! Simple and stunning!

Cardigans: My BFF

Posted in Hot Trends, New Arrivals with tags , , , on October 15, 2009 by iluvpockets

I’ll be the first to admit it; I have a problem.  Not only am I always cold but I always carry a cardigan in my giant purse (the giant purse addiction is a separate issue best addressed another time.)  We’re talking in the heat of a Texas summer, you can ask me to reach into my bag and I will produce a cardigan…sometimes more than one because I like to have options. (For those of you familiar with Texas heat, you are also familiar with how frigid stores, schools, and buildings of the sort are kept.)

Brushing aside the occasional “grandma” wise crack or dumbfounded stare as I sport my cardi in 102 degree heat, I have come to embrace my addiction.  And since the weather is turning (now a fantastic 80 degrees) I no longer receive any heat (pun intended).

The beautiful thing about cardigans is that they can alter any outfit.  The favorite, well-loved wrap dress gets a facelift with a little shrunken cardigan and maybe a vintage broach.  The perhaps slightly revealing top you wear to work is suddenly work appropriate with an oversized cardigan with great large pockets and wide legged trousers.  This is why they are such a wise investment and great to have on the go.

So I’m sure you’ll understand my state of pure bliss when I laid eyes on our newest store arrivals yesterday.  Rich, saturated colors and soft to the touch material invited me to try them on.

First thought; skinny jeans, brown knee highs, and a long Henley.  Ah, perfection.  Second thought; mini dress and flats.  There we go.

And let’s not forget the classic argyle that will forever be in style!

Now, I’m sure you’ve got the hang of this.  What’s that you say?  Pair this with some tweed pencil pants and black ankle boots?  Yes my friend, yes.

If you don’t mind, I’m going to finish up here.  I’m a little chilly and there’s a great purple cardi waiting for me in my oversized bag…toodles!

My New Love: Grey

Posted in Hot Trends with tags , , , , , , on October 12, 2009 by iluvpockets

May I just say how fantastic it is that our new blog is up and running?  Now, we are able to share our constant stream of fashion thoughts and insights with our favorite peeps!

I’d like to first open with the number one rule of style; there are no rules.  The fabulous thing about style is that you don’t have to wear just one look.  You can transform yourself anytime you please.  If on Monday, you feel like donning pearls and a sweater vest and Tuesday you step out in biker boots and a black minidress, you are living the dream of a fashionista!  No boundaries, no rules, just wonderful threads to fit all your moods.

With that being said, I am beginning to notice a new, budding obsession of mine.  I have developed a love affair with the color, grey.  And I simply can’t write this off as a little crush.  No, this can only be classified as true love.  Whether I am bumming around the house, zigzagging across town in a flurry of errands, enjoying a girls’ night out, or going to dinner with that special someone, grey is always there for me.

For example, a couple weekends ago I went to ACL.  Now, the weather was perfect when I ventured up to Austin, so I totally lucked out.  But the following days (when I didn’t attend) were rainy and muddy.  This is an understatement.  It was a mud pit.  And I thought to myself, “what would I have worn?”  I know you’re totally thinking that too.  You still want to look cute but not be totally bummed or thrown off if you were to have been in the line of fire of some mud slinging.  For future mud loving music festivals, do not fear.

This adorable grey little number paired with yellow or red rainboots and goodbye dreary ACL, hello, “how did she pull that mud covered outfit off so well?”websitealbum1017

But grey isn’t just for the offchance you may get dirty rocking out to Kings of Leon or Phoenix, it can also be elegant and sophisticated.  Take this hot little number, for instance.  IMG_1244

Some gold chandelier earrings, a cute bright clutch and a killer pair of heels and you’re ready for a night on the town.  And yes, my friends…it has pockets.

Grey is also the perfect accent color to diffuse a bright outfit.  This grey little ring would be the perfect compliment to a deep purple or green.  It adds the right amount of delicacy and detail.  webinventory1136

So when in doubt over what color to choose, just remember gray is not only a safe bet but has a stellar track record.  Oh grey, let me count the ways….

Why All the Peacocks?

Those of you who were already familiar with Gabby B’s may have noticed that we recently changed our logo to the lovely peacock feather the now adorns our website and business cards. You have probably also noticed that these lovely jewel-toned aviary adornments have been popping up everywhere lately.

Sometimes the feathers themselves are used to embellish the item as seen in this amazing couture dress which I am sure sent the poor seamstress who had to attach all of the feathers into early retirement.

Eva Longoria Parker even sported a beautiful mini dress that was covered feathers and sequins.  While this may sound like a Vegas showgirl costume the result was actually very stylish and even tasteful.

Those who prefer a more subtle approach have been wearing prints inspired by our favorite bird’s tail as seen here on both Katy Perry.  The epitome of class herself, Ms. Tory Burch, has even been spotted wearing a lovely shift dress covered in a dreamy blue peacock print.

051908_burch_200x400While peacock feathers are all the rage right now and are both beautiful and stylish, that is not the reason that we chose to make one our new logo.  There is much more to it than that.

Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of seeing one of these majestic  birds in real life knows that they are impressively lovely but you can’t really appreciate just how beautiful they are until they open their tail and display that iconic fan of feathers.  Here at Gabby B’s we believe that the same is true of our customers.  We think that every women is possessed of a natural beauty that is hers to choose to hide or display.

Helping women realize beauty is one of the main reasons that we love fashion as much as we do. Seeing  someone’s face light up when they realize that they look smoking hot in a dress or a new top is one of the best parts of our job.

The next time you see our logo, a top with peacock print, or one of these amazing birds remember that you are beautiful and you owe to yourself and those around you to shake out your incredible plumage and let your natural beauty shine.

Don’t Let Your Hair Go Naked!

Posted in Uncategorized on September 30, 2009 by kac31284

siennaOne of the biggest trends happening this fall is hats.  They have been popping up everywhere from the runway to “Gossip Girl.”  One of the hottest styles of hats for the fall is the fedora.  Those of you who watch “Mad Men” will be very familiar with seeing the men of Sterling Cooper whisking these off every time they walk into the office. MMS3-Don-119-1

The good news is that it is not 1962 and fedoras aren’t just for the boys anymore! Bold trend setters like Sienna Miller and Kate Moss have been using these fabulous toppers as a way to finish off a suit or dress up a t-shirt.

Another wonderful and slightly more subtle way to rock a hat is to slip on a newsboy cap.  These caps are equally adorable in either tweed or sweater material.  Check out the one Anne Hathaway is rocking in this picture.

Also, if you haven’t heard by now that head bands are here to stay you may have been living under a rock.  Blair Waldorf brought them into the public eye as the reigning queen of Constance Billiard, but since then they have been everywhere.  They instantly add a touch of glamour to even the simplest hair style.  Whether you choose to sport a beautiful plumage of feathers, a simple band of lace, or a crowning slip of silver or gold they are the easiest way to pull any outfit together. b waldorf

Don’t worry you don’t have to spend a fortune to instantly update your wardrobe.  Fedoras and Newsboy Caps have just arrived at your local Gabby B’s location.  A variety of headbands are available in our stores and also on our website shopgabbyb.com.  If you are unsure of how best to rock this trend don’t be shy about asking any Gabby B’s employee for advice.  We love fashion and are thrilled to help you bring out your natural beauty.  Log onto the site or give the store nearest you a call.
